How did discover numbers stations? What introduced you to them?
My story: Actually, I had a vague awareness of these things for many years. Back in 2008-2010 I was a member of the website TwilightSucks and was a regular in the site's Chatango chatroom. I was first introduced to these by a discussion one night about UVB-76 after Cracked published their The 5 Creepiest Unexplained Broadcasts article. Around the same time I came across a Tumblr post on my dashboard which was similar to this one (the original post seems to have been long deleted). I checked the Buzzer and thought it was interesting, but didn't really investigate further. I somewhat forgot about these until last summer. When I'm bored I have a tendency to browse the paranormal board on 4Chan. A few users refreshed my memory of them and I decided to look into them more like I intended 3 years ago. My ex-boyfriend told me about the Conet Project and I listened to it frequently over the next few months. I seriously started monitoring them at the end of last September on and off ever since.

Interesting! I stumbled across this by mistake, just by loving to watch horror movies apparently. I watched The Number Station with John Cusack and that got my interest up a bit, but right after watched the Banshee Chapter on Amazon -- WOW. It included the Swedish Rhapsody clip in the movie (horror/MK Ultra) and that just booted me to start looking around more. It's only been about a month for me, but was so excited to hear my first broadcast, record my second and even try to transcribe it. It is also a very nice relaxing distraction from every day life.

Almost the same as Taskona. By accident on 2012 February in boredom just was watching some videos on youtube. One particular video with game character Heavy from Team Fortress 3d saying 395 395 704 got me intrigued. I then read all the pointless comments and then find the word number station. Google it and started reading the one old site about the topic on Angelfire. The thing that they are used by spies got me in quickly cause as historian I like the army and intelligence stuff. So started to look for shortwave radio. I got my first shortwave radio even before I found the websdr. It lacked SSB, but taught me good insights on shortwave stuff. Listened to broadcasts for some months, then by accident found the webdsdr in Holland. It was tricky at first, but figured it out without asking in chat. So I was tuning around it and found S06s. Then found all the skeds and started to look for stations. I have so far listened and recorded most number stations that are known out there. Then after hearing first buzzer message, I started to pay attention to that cause its near my border and I am always interested in Russian military actions. I got my Grundig G6 Receiver to get stations directly, and many more radios in my disposal including vintage. So thats my story in nutshell.

the first I heard of Number Stations was from an episode of Fringe. session 3 episode 6 "6955 kHz". I started looking in to them and found The Conet Project, and after listening to just a few of them I was hooked. I went out the very next day and bought a radio. first schedule I found was from the Priyom group. after catching the exciting null message of E11 3 weeks in a row, I found the WebSDR and Monochrome's schedule and have been catching stations ever since.

It was about five or six years ago when I first heard about numbers stations. For me it was an article on Listverse about Incredible Recordings. I was a real nightowl and tended to stay up late in the dark listening to things via headphones, so my first listen of a recording was creepy as hell. I've been intrigued ever since.

It was about a year ago. I was looking up shortwave radio on Wikipedia, and saw the section on numbers stations. I was a bit skeptical, so I had to look up more information. Needless to say, I got no work done that afternoon! Within days I was skyping my mom and playing a recording of the Lincolnshire Poacher, making her try to guess what it was. When she came for dinner one night I spent a lot of the time talking about numbers stations. However, I did not yet have the proper plug-in for the SDR, so I was mostly listening to the Conet Project. Then when I came home to visit a few weeks later (and was able to get a radio from a family member) I listened to HM01 live. It was really exciting to hear that voice suddenly start saying numbers! I listened to most of that afternoon's broadcasts, and made sure that all the relatives I was visiting got to hear it too.

It was about a year ago. I found out about number stations after a video I watched (LINK 1). I then found it on the forums which a person posted about it being just like a number station. After 3 days of non stop listening I went and tried to find a receiver to tune into. I tried Globaltuner but I found it too difficult to use and really didn't do the job. Then I found out about the twente SDR, after finding the SDR I built my knowledge from it. In a space of a few months I knew quite a bit about shortwave. Also, SWL became one of my favourite hobbies. Here are the links for the video I found. LINK 1: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVxXHyE1CJM

My first reminder of numbers stations was while listening to the track "Poor Places" by the band Wilco. They sampled one of The Conet Project's recordings and had the phrase "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" repeating toward the end of the song. (They also used that for the album title.) I had heard about numbers stations before, and I started looking in to them. At that point it was just research, and I didn't think many would be active any longer.
I have been interested in radio for some time, and had been DXing local signals with a handheld scanner. I started keeping a log. Local cab companies, animal control, and the nearby mall's security were all found over a couple evenings of scanning. I found it to be a good hobby but put the scanner away for a bit.
I got in to shortwave and have built a few antennas to try to get better signals, to see how far I could listen from the central US. I got completely lucky with a HM01 sighting while DXing and got hooked on finding more numbers stations!
I have a cheap RTL-2832U dongle on the way so I will try that out as my current shortwave has pretty crummy filters.

I was just looking an article on a Spanish Website that talked about MDZhB and I started to google it. First I saw was uvb-76.net, then priyom and then the WebSDR. Then I met you guys.
