Maris,
A few comments on your article “Numbers Stations – the Spooks Spectrum”.
You make a comment near the beginning that numbers stations peaked during the Cold War and have reduced in numbers since then. This is a common thought, but might not be correct or supportable. For sure European centric numbers stations have reduced since the Cold War, mostly in the E, S, and G stations. However the V stations have grown since the end of the Cold War.
The total number today is probably a wash, about the same number or slightly less as has been active at any one time for the past 40 or 50 years. However, some of the activity has shifted to Asia, and there are not many listeners covering that area. Also, Asian numbers stations are generally slower to receive ENIGMA designation. This is partially because of the larger language and understanding gap, and partially because of lower reporting density. As an example of lower reporting density V30 is almost never reported, but M97 is reported almost every time it transmits, and in general V30 transmits every day that M97 does, one hour after M97. It also appears that stations in general are slower to receive ENIGMA IDs today (E2K wanting to confirm it is indeed a numbers station before jumping to assign an ID, that resulting in fewer “withdrawn” or deleted IDs), VC03, VC04, and VC05 all might have received ENIGMA IDs if they had been active or reported in the 80’s and 90’s. The same is probably true of EV01.
A couple of errors in that article that might be typos, not sure. Near the bottom you mention V14 a couple of times. I am pretty sure you mean V13 in the context you use. You also talk about the Chinese Robot and call it VC07, the Chinese Robot is VC01. VC07 has not been assigned yet.
Z!

Thank you Zabatsov for your comments, yes the V type stations are also a kind a puzzle for me. Generally because of the lack of knowledge and not able to receive them. I believe the one of the reasons of the rise of Asian especially Chinese number stations after Cold War, is the new political situation China got in to after the fall of the big Soviet brother. The PRC started to make more active foreign policy towards the West and Russia aiming to re - take its lost world superpower status and the foreign intelligence service therefore has become more active.
I will add the corrections and thank you Shazzepe for adding the posts to main site.
